Consultancy
Karen O’Connor, a well-known Consultant Speech & Language Therapist leads the way, using groundbreaking techniques when working with families. Karen blends her knowledge and expertise with each family’s knowledge, to make sense of each child’s challenges and discusses with parents how best to treat them so that their child progresses and move forward. Karen works very much in a family-centred manner, believing that parents are the true professionals on their child and that it is only by blending our knowledge that we will see the best results.
Our approach is very individual and has evolved over the past 15 years. We look at each child holistically, taking into account the entire child and not just one part, in determining causes of each child’s difficulties and in the development of the most effective treatment programmes (including some of our special programmes).
We at the Listening Therapy Centre, Ireland, provide consultation to many children with mild, moderate and more complex needs. Children from birth to 18 years of age are seen. Children who come to the Centre may present with a variety of difficulties, including attention, listening, speech, language, communication, social and academic challenges. All children are welcome!
Assessment
Our experience has shown that comprehensive assessment is the key to unlocking each child’s potential. We believe in providing a comprehensive assessment of each child’s skills including sensory, motor, play, listening, speech, language, interaction and social skills.
We provide a unique approach to assessing each child’s challenges identifying causes and best approaches to treatment.
Each assessment includes detailed discussions with parents, as we feel that parents are the professionals when it comes to their child.
Our assessment process is quite different from many others as we provide a treatment programme at the end of the initial assessment to help families to get started immediately. Many families have been on waiting lists for months and even years and we believe that treatment needs to begin straight away.
Assessment & treatment go hand-in-hand at the Listening Therapy Centre, Ireland as we assess so that we can develop the most effective therapy programme for your child.
Please refer to our listening checklist to see whether your child may have a listening difficulty, which is contributing to their current speech, language and learning challenges.

We treat each child using a holistic approach focusing on sensory, motor, speech, language, play, interaction & engagement, reading & learning.
